ABOUT THE CROOKED KNIFE

 

Welcome to 'The Crooked Knife' pub and restaurant, located on 29 East 30th st Manhattan.  We have a warming bar, charming restaurant and outside dining, serving amongst others a variety of American, Irish and Italian dishes from our daily changing menu. We have regular music events and enjoy hosting private party events.

 You may wonder how we came by the

name The Crooked Knife'...?

Whilst exploring the history of the area, we found that 30th street was considered at one time ( and by some still is) to be the northern boundary to Gramercy.... The name,.. "Gramercy" is an Anglicization of "Cromessie", itself derived from the Dutch Krom Mesje, or "Little Crooked Knife," the name of a small brook or stream meandered like a 'crooked little knife or 'Crom messie' in old Dutch('Krom mesje') through the area. ......Well, the decision was made to drop the 'little'...and 'The Crooked Knife" was born !!


 We are delighted to say 'The Crooked Knife' has gone from strength to strength and are happy to announce we will be opening our second Crooked Knife soon, it is on 14th st and we love the name so much we are going to keep it for that one too!!
